Gal 2:16
Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.

Q - Does this mean that obeying God's law is no longer necessary?
A - "What Paul is saying is that our good works can not change the fact that we have sinned and deserve the sentence of death. For example if a murderer saves the life of a drowning man he is still guilty of murder. (Rom) 2:13 For it is not the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but the doers of the law who will be justified. "
