Luk 12:5
But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him.

Q - If God loves us why does he want us to be afraid of him?
A - "The word fear in this passage really means to have reverence and respect for God. We are expected to place God and his laws above every kind of earthly authority. (Dan 3:16) Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered and said to the king, ""O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter. (Dan 3:17) If this be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of your hand, O king. (Dan 3:18) But if not, be it known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up."" "
